Wimbledon will follow the American and Aussie Opens in utilizing replay systems.
Replay technology will make its debut at Wimbledon in the upcoming tournament.
Athletes are granted the right to challenge particular rulings from the official, echoing the system currently in place at both the US Open and the Australian Open.
This innovation will be accessible on Centre Court and Court One for the duration of the tournament and on the other four show courts when they are hosting singles matches.
This move arrives only a year after the All England Club rolled out electronic line calling, which terminated the centuries-old tradition of line officials.
Reviewable Decisions
Players will not be permitted to dispute the accuracy of the ELC system, but are allowed to request the official to re-examine specific decisions, such as:
- If a tennis ball has bounced twice.
- Whether a ball made contact with an rival's racket or body during play.
- Potential interference end of a point.
Importantly, there is no cap on the amount of reviews a player can ask for.
Case in Point
A recent example took place in a recent tournament last week, where a top player used the review system against his opponent.
The British player admitted it was a difficult situation for the official, but thought his rival had "played the rules effectively."
Official Aurelie Tourte viewed a video and determined the player was responsible for hindrance, awarding the point to Medvedev.
Growing Trend
This technology are not new for Grand Slams. It has been in use at the US Open since 2023 and the Australian Open since 2025.
Furthermore, it is increasingly prevalent on the women’s WTA Tour, and by next season the men's ATP Tour will have video reviews implemented at all of its events.
Other Changes
Another innovation at The Championships 2025 will be the addition of graphical cues on scoreboards to complement the audio calls from the ELC system.
This solves instances where the crowd have occasionally been unsure whether a ball was out or in.
In other news, with precisely a century of days remaining until the start of the Championships, organizers have further revealed an increase in daily attendance at the qualifying competition in the qualifying venue.
