Uche Sparks Comfortable Palace Win at Shelbourne.
Despite entering their maiden continental campaign, Crystal Palace are learning at a rapid pace. Without key figures like forward Jean-Philippe Mateta and wing-back Daniel Muñoz, the London club left Dublin with a comfortable result that all but guarantees them a place in the Conference League qualifying rounds.
A further three points in their upcoming match against Finland's KuPS ought to be enough to secure direct entry to the last 16, particularly after a previous stumble against Strasbourg.
Squad Members Seize the Opportunity
This match provided a chance for some of Palace's fringe talent to impress. Christantus Uche, making only his second start since arriving on loan from Getafe, notched the scoring with a clinical goal. Striker Eddie Nketiah contributed a another, scoring for the second game in succession.
The Shelbourne side that had concluded their domestic season were no match even for a mostly second-string Palace outfit. The Londoners were already weakened by the news that Mateta and Muñoz are out with knee problems.
Dominance Established from the Start
Despite heavy rain in Dublin, Palace quickly established dominance. A slick move in the 11th minute, initiated by Daichi Kamada's incisive pass, let Nketiah to set up Uche for a straightforward tap-in.
Youngster Adam Wharton came close minutes later, driving a long-range effort over the bar. Nketiah then appealed for a penalty after racing into the box, but the referee dismissed the protests.
Ex-Arsenal man didn't need to wait long to find his goal, tapping home from a yard out after Uche's effort had hit the post.
Shelbourne were clinging on desperately. Defender Kameron Ledwidge was fortunate to escape a booking for two robust challenges on Yeremy Pino, before Chris Richards rattled the crossbar with a powerful header from a corner.

The match was effectively over eight minutes before half-time. Yeremy Pino meandered past a series of weak challenges before calmly dispatching a shot past goalkeeper Wessel Speel to make it 3-0.
After the break, manager Oliver Glasner took the chance to rest several players like Kamada and Wharton. Replacement Romain Esse came close to scoring his very first touch, only to see his shot blocked.
The youngster was incredibly unlucky later on, seeing one attempt crash off both posts before being gathered on the line. Uche then missed a glaring chance, showing there is still scope for development in his game.
The only concern for Palace was a late injury to Justin Devenny, who limped off. This allowed 17-year-old forward Benji Casey to earn his senior debut, capping an otherwise perfect evening for the traveling side.
