The Baldur's Gate 3 Creators Reveal a Fresh Divinity, Labeling it Their Largest RPG Yet

The anticipation surrounding The Game Awards has been intense, particularly after presenter Geoff Keighley shared a mysterious photo of a desert monolith. The secret has now been solved. Larian Studios is creating a completely new Divinity game.

Announced as Divinity, the game was presented with a bold trailer that included striking imagery, from a burning man to scenes of revelry and the literal opening of infernal gates.

A Different Direction

Anyone expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. The studio clarified that a follow-up to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not being worked on now.

However, the developer described this new Divinity as a continuation of the main series. This distinction implies that the team might be crafting a faster-paced experience rather than another tactical title. Currently, we can only guess, as only a teaser video is available.

A Pillar of Modern RPGs

The Divinity series is widely praised and it's fair to claim it kicked off the modern wave of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are known for detailed worlds, branching plots, and complex character building—qualities that recently were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its world is traditional swords and sorcery, what really distinguishes Divinity apart is the unprecedented level of trust given to the player.

Where many modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is full of niche playthroughs only possible by choosing a distinct build with a personal story.

The series is also notoriously permissive, enabling players to find creative solutions in narrative and gameplay. Most missions can be approached in diverse methods, frequently in lateral fashion.

  • You might solve a puzzle because you recalled something a dog told you.
  • Or, you could overcome an obstacle by teleporting a glob of lava in a inventive way.

More to Come

It is precisely these elements that lead fans and critics to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games ever made. Now, fans can anticipate another adventure in this legendary franchise.
