The acclaimed animation studio has released the trailer for its forthcoming animated feature, The Hoppers Project, which offers a concept that is both quirky and entertaining.
Plot Overview
The Hoppers Adventure centers on Mabel Tanaka (played by Piper Curda), a 19-year-old nature-lover who acquires the ability to communicate with wildlife after experimenting with a form of Avatar-esque invention developed by one of her university professors.
According to one scientist, ‘The conventional approaches to comprehend creatures just were ineffective,” explains a scientists who created the brain-transfer system.
How The Invention Works
Called “The Hoppers Device,” the gadget essentially works just like the mind-link technology seen in the Avatar films, but with a single key difference: Rather than awakening as a seven-foot-tall navy-colored extraterrestrial, the protagonist's consciousness is shifted into a robotic creature body. In particular, a robotic beaver-form.
Conflict and Characters
Similar to Avatar's main character Jake Sully, Mabel soon finds herself immersing herself with the residents of the wildlife world, unintentionally triggering an creature revolt led by a regal butterfly (voiced by Meryl Streep) and the king of the beaver community (Bobby Moynihan), who are resolved to “defeat the human race.”
At one point, antagonist Mayor Jerry (Jon Hamm) is confined in his car by a pair of beaver characters and a lizard, who then go on to menace him using his phone's text-to-speech capability.
