Norris Leads Oscar Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice Session
Lando Norris has outscored his teammate at all of the previous five race weekends.
Lando Norris edged out fellow driver and title rival Oscar Piastri for the fastest time in the closing stages of the practice session at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
Norris, who took the points lead from his teammate by one point after winning in the Mexican Grand Prix two weeks ago, topped the Melbourne-born driver by 0.023 seconds.
Earlier in the session, Oscar Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver for most of the session before sprint qualifying set to begin at 6:30 PM GMT.
Max Verstappen, the only other driver in the championship fight, trailing with a 36-point deficit behind Norris, finished in 17th place as his Red Bull team ran a unique setup.
Verstappen's team-mate Yuki Tsunoda was the only driver to go off, if briefly, when he lost control at corner four soon after starting.
The Japanese spun out over the track edges before rotating through the run-off area, and was blessed to get away with just a minor contact of the barrier.
Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton also had a spin, at the conclusion of the session, spinning around through the quick descending Mergulho corner approaching the final bend on to the start-finish straight.
The veteran ended the session in 19th, one place behind team-mate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren drivers were far ahead of the rest of the field, with Nico Hulkenberg's Sauber in third, 0.619secs behind the Australian's time.
The Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso was in fourth, with Sauber's Gabriel Bortoleto fifth from Mercedes' George Russell and the Alpine of Gasly and the Williams of Carlos Sainz.
