Critical Role Season Four Unveils the Warriors Party

Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with rich lore, a wide array of personalities, and a thrilling plot featuring celestial beings, evil spirits, and sinister influences expanding in power within the urban setting.

Note: Spoilers for the third episode of this adventure are included.

The Combat-Oriented Party Unveiled

The third episode concluded with a major cliffhanger and presented the initial group of characters who will separate from the main group to begin their own adventure, separate from the additional parties.

The Soldiers table includes the determined fighter (brought to life by Travis), the nimble rogue (Laura), Tyranny (Whitney), Wicander Halovar (Sam), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie Daymond).

Why Split the Party?

Given 13 cast members, it was clear from the outset that maintaining everyone at one table would be impossible.

Hence, the first four episodes of this story serve as an Introduction, weaving together the characters’ stories before branching into three distinct groups: Warriors, Planners, and Seekers.

What Defines the Warrior Group

As described by Brennan Lee Mulligan, the combat-focused party is for adventurers who are drawn to a traditionally charged battle-oriented narrative style where non-violent answers are rare.

Upon first impression, figures such as the hesitant healer Wicander Halovar might appear unsuited, but the actions of episode 3 demonstrate why these specific adventurers are best suited for the Soldiers table.

Reasons to Leave

First, the group knows exactly where to proceed after a brutal initial meeting with the enemy group.

A former ally of Thjazi—whose passing kicked off the campaign’s events—exploited the foes for his personal gain, invading Thjazi’s hideout, striking Thimble, and swiping all the magical artifacts to sell off.

The traitor then cleared his obligations and ran away to a secure base in Gormalay, Timmony, beyond Dol-Makjar, with Cyd Pridesire pursuing him.

Personal Motivations

Secondly, each member has a personal reason to depart Dol-Makjar:

  • Thimble, as Thjazi’s partner and closest confidant, desires retribution.
  • The knowledgeable figure has experience in the northern area and advises that it is a nasty place.
  • The strong character and Wicander, having resisted his relatives’ demands to execute the fighter and instead saved him, have no other options.
  • However, their position as prominent individuals in the powerful family could assist the team enter areas they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Furthermore, The fighter swore a life debt to The savior for his salvation and will now follow him wherever.

Fugitives

Lastly, all of them are hunted by the authorities that rule the city for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city no longer safe:

  • The rogue and The hero are notorious outlaws.
  • The strong figure and The healer betrayed the powerful family and the horde of evil beings they are partnered with.
  • The target is wanted dead by the family.

This results in them few options but to travel to Timmony in search of the antagonist.

Future Episodes

According to the recent installment’s follow-up content, we find out that the Soldiers table will be absent the following episode, leaving the rest of the players to form the Explorers and Planners parties.

Fans can anticipate discovering which adventurers will be assigned to which table in Campaign 4’s final introductory chapter, released on next week.
